One person was hospitalized after a stabbing in Sodus Point on Wednesday, according to deputies.
The incident took place around 4 pm in a shallow section of water. The victim, who was not identified, was conscious while being transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Deputies didn’t identify the object used in the stabbing.
One suspect was taken into custody. During the investigation, there were two additional arrests – one for disorderly conduct, one for disrupting governmental procedures.
July 11th is known as ‘Blow Off Day’, in which local restaurant employees who had to work on July 4th take the day off, go boating, and celebrate the summer.
Organizers say the incident on Wednesday was not related to the celebration.
Sheriff’s deputies had been stationed in the area, along with members of other law enforcement agencies, to encourage people to celebrate safely.
“We’re doing kind of a joint exercise and trying to enforce the law and make sure everybody has a good time, but making sure they’re following the rules at the same time,” explained Lt. Matt Ryndock of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
“Sodus Point is known, with the bay, as far as being a great area to boat, and places and scenery around here, something that people enjoy doing,” he said. “We encourage that, but we obviously want people to follow the rules while they enjoy themselves.”
