Man accused of burying Sodus mother appears in court

The man accused of burying the body of a Wayne County mother appeared in court Thursday afternoon.

Albert Reyes appeared in Wayne County Court for what is referred to as a Huntley hearing, to determine if statements Reyes gave to investigators can be used in a trial.

The hearing, however, was cut short before a decision was made. It will resume in the near future.

Many question if Reyes killed Selena Hidalgo-Calderon and her 1-year-old son, Owen, but he is only charged with tampering with evidence.

Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts said Reyes told deputies early on in the search for Hidalgo-Calderon that he admitted to hiding her body in the woods but has maintained he did not kill her.

Deputies found her body a week after she and her son disappeared in May from a farm where she worked in Sodus.

Earlier this week, Virts announced that human remains on the farm believed to be Owen were found.

Deputies are waiting for test results from the medical examiner, but both of these cases are being looked at as murder investigations.
