After a career practicing law wasn’t as fulfilling as she hoped, Dr. Heather Wasileski decided to pursue medicine. And now, with her new medical practice, she hopes to offer a different level of care to the Auburn community.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own practice and kind of run it the way I wanted to,” Wasileski said Monday. “I always wanted to give patients a little bit more time than they’d have in a typical office, have longer appointment times and be able to pick a staff that I felt was really caring and receptive to patients. So here I am.”
Wasileski, who specializes in internal medicine, and her husband, Dr. Gabriel Lurvey, who specializes in sports medicine, opened the new practice in June as part of FamilyCare Medical Group in Auburn.
Raised in Auburn, Wasileski moved back to the area with her husband and three sons about four years ago to care for her mother, who was ill at the time. Wasileski worked at Internal Medicine Associates at first, but recently took a year off to care for her mother full-time. When her mother passed away in April, Wasileski decided it was time to start something new.
Mindy Johnson, the practice’s office manager, said Wasileski took such good care of her 900 patients at Internal Medicine that when she started practicing again this summer, “One lady cried when she came in” because she was so glad Wasileski was back.
