State Police facing serious shortage of troopers

New York State Police are now facing a serious shortage of troopers.

The New York Post reports that the force is losing more members than it can keep.

Since 2015, more than 1,000 troopers have retired, but only about 750 have been brought on.

The Post spoke with the president of the Troopers Union who says if the agency doesn’t get ahead of the curve, the manpower shortage could take years to dig out of.

The group employs about 5,000 troopers across the state.

It’s set to hire another 250 in January, but the union president thinks that number should be doubled.
