KanPak holds ‘No lunch lunch to benefit Foodlink

The Golden State Foods (GSF) Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in need in the areas where GSF associates live and work, hosted Feeding Hunger: a “No Lunch” Lunch event Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the KanPak dairy plant in Penn Yan to benefit Foodlink, a local non-profit that provides direct services to food-insecure households.

At the 1-hour soup kitchen-style lunch, attendees learned firsthand what it’s like to receive a meal at a soup kitchen. Each received a bowl of vegetable soup, a piece of bread, and one bottle of water while learning more about childhood hunger and how to combat it. One in six children in the U.S. is hungry, and in Yates County, more than 19 percent of children are food insecure.

“Our goal is to help the hungry children and their families in our local community, and partnering with Foodlink, we know that the funds we raise through Feeding Hunger: A “No Lunch” Lunch will directly benefit those who need it most,” said Melissa Nolan, KanPak Penn Yan local committee chair. “With the help of our sponsors, customers, and the resources of Foodlink, we’re working to end hunger here in our hometown.” In addition to KanPak, local sponsors of the ” No Lunch” lunch included Chrisanntha Construction Corp., Coach & Equipment Inc., and Ferro Inc.
