Ordinarily, the recipient of the Mr./Mrs./Ms. Canandaigua Award is kept under wraps until the night of the award presentation.
This year, the honoree is no surprise — in more ways than one.
Richard McGavern, a former Canandaigua mayor and city councilman, is the 2019 recipient. The traditional silver bowl will be presented to McGavern at the Chamber’s 109th annual dinner and membership meeting Friday, Feb. 1, at Finger Lakes Community College.
Since 1960, as part of the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce’s commitment to recognizing talent in the community, the Mr./Mrs./Ms. Canandaigua Award has honored an individual who has demonstrated service to the community and its citizens over and above what can normally be expected of one person. That person also has done this with little or no compensation.
Their contributions to Canandaigua are varied and through their efforts, the community is bettered. Each year’s recipient is selected by a confidential committee of previous recipients, community members, and members of the Chamber’s board.
