Local firefighters help rescue dog who fell down embankment on hike

Emergency responders from Varna, Ithaca and Cornell worked together to rescue a dog who had fallen down an embankment Sunday off of the Monkey Run Trail in Varna.

The Varna Fire Department and Cornell Environmental Health and Safety responded to report at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday from a man that said his dog fell off a cliff while hiking. The dog, “Finn,” had fallen about 50 feet down an area called the “Varna Cliffs,” off of Freese Road. Because of the steep terrain, the Ithaca Fire Department High Angle Rope Rescue Team was called in to help.
