Even though the calendar said February, and winds were expected to drive area residents into their homes for half of the weekend – the 17th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration along Cayuga Lake went off without a hitch.
Wine tastings, food pairings, and plenty of positivity filled the 14 participating wineries and tasting rooms. “This has been a really unique, fun experience,” said Jenna Hastings, a visitor, who was with friends at the celebration. “I graduate this spring, but I could definitely see myself coming back with friends for something like this.”
That appeared to be the consensus. While the Cayuga Wine Trail has plenty of experience putting together events like these – it always comes with a set of challenges.
Forecasting turnout for one, but then forecasting weather can be a completely different challenge. Especially with an annual event like this one, which comes every year.
Even though the forecast was calling for potentially damaging winds on Sunday – the wineries and tasting rooms were bustling on Saturday.
