Volunteer to tell of work at Texas border in Penn Yan

The Penn Yan Action Coalition will sponsor a community event featuring local volunteer Ann Meyer-Wilbur from 6 to 8 p.m. March 2 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Main and Clinton Streets, Penn Yan.

The event will begin with a dinner prepared by learners in the Literacy Volunteers English Language and Citizenship class that meets weekly at the Penn Yan Literacy Volunteers office. Following the dinner, at 6:45 Meyer-Wilber will give a presentation about her recent experience welcoming immigrant families in El Paso, Texas, where for three weeks she volunteered at Annunciation House. She helped welcome immigrant families seeking asylum in the U.S. who were brought to Annunciation House by ICE after having been processed at the border. For a preview of Anne’s presentation, you may access the blog Anne wrote while in El Paso at https://lifesadventures2019.blogspot.com/.

Donations will help to cover meal costs and support for Annunciation House. Please use the Clinton St. entrance to enter the Fellowship Hall in the basement.

The Penn Yan Action Coalition (PYAC) was formed during the summer of 2017 to address immigration and other issues of concern to residents of Yates County following the detaining of, and subsequent deportation of a Yates County resident and friend, Gilberto Reyes-Herrera.
