A Democrat holding elected office in south Seneca County is as rare as the proverbial hen’s teeth.
But Tony DelPlato is proving to be the exception.
He was elected Interlaken village trustee in 2017 and has now been named deputy mayor of this village of 602 people by Mayor Rich Richardson, a Republican.
“I have been appointed deputy mayor of Interlaken. Wow! Will I now become the 17th Democratic candidate for President? Nope,” DelPlato said in an email.
“I’ve risen as far as I can up my political life. There is no pay increase and I sure hope the mayor doesn’t decide to take unannounced vacations on the second Thursday of the month,” he joked, referring to the Village Board meeting night.
