The Penn Yan Village Board will hold a public hearing June 18 on a proposed six-month moratorium on construction of and the processing of applications for senior citizen housing.
The proposed moratorium gives the village officials time to update the village regulations on the location of and definition of senior citizen housing.
Mayor Leigh MacKerchar explained that a recent decision from Yates County Judge Jason Cook creates the possibility that senior citizen housing of any configuration could be built anywhere within the village limits.
Cook’s April 12 decision cleared the way for Developer David Genecco to build an eight-unit condominium project designated as senior citizen housing on South Avenue, adjacent to a larger townhose development planned for the former Keuka Estates Trailer Park property in the town of Milo.
The village board voted unanimously May 21 to schedule the public hearing.
