Victor softball bid to repeat as state champion ends

Victor softball’s quest to become the first Section V team to repeat as Class AA state champions came up just short in the state semifinals Saturday.

After a scoreless battle for almost five innings, Section III Cicero-North Syracuse pulled away from the Blue Devils 4-0 to advance to the state championship game in South Glens Falls.

Scoring opportunities came at premium early as both teams failed to register a hit until the third inning.

The Blue Devils (19-4) had a chance to strike in fourth after hits by juniors Chloe Whittier and Katie Sidare eventually got runners on first and third. The Northstars escaped the jam with a strikeout.
