Geneva man held on rape charges

In his initial Ontario County court appearance, a Geneva man facing a first-degree rape charges had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf.

Joseph Paliotti, 27, appeared shackled and in handcuffs in front of Ontario County Court Judge Brian Dennis, who ordered him held on $40,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.

Paliotti was represented by Ontario County Conflict Defender Carrie Bleakley, who entered a "not guilty" plea on her client's behalf.

According to county First Assistant District Attorney Jason MacBride, Paliotti raped a woman as she slept. Paliotti was in the victim's home as a guest of another resident, MacBride said.

An order of protection was issued on the victim's behalf.
