Set sail with a Canandaigua lady

Brenda Suhr’s inroad to sailing was from a kayak. That was a few years ago, while paddling around on Lake Ontario. Suhr met up with some sailors from the Pultneyville Yacht Club. Sailing looked like fun, and she was ready for a new challenge.

“I love it. It’s a passion,” said Suhr of her enthusiasm for sailing she shares by operating the only commercial sailboat on Canandaigua Lake. With her J-24 sailboat she bought from a friend, hard to miss with its rainbow graphics spanning the hull, Suhr offers customized weekend packages for small groups looking for a wind-driven ride on the lake. It could be a moonlight cruise or a daytime sail, a relaxing ride-along or a chance to try your hand at some sailing maneuvers. There are a number of choices for your sail from the boat on a mooring off the east side of City Pier in Canandaigua. She offers rentals, too, for experienced sailors wanting to take the boat out on their own.
