Troopers dressed as construction workers issue 112 tickets to drivers

New York DOT workers worked with State Police troopers last week to focus on safety in construction works zones in Rochester.

Police announced Tuesday that 112 tickets were issued over the course of three days during Operation Hardhat. Forty of those tickets were for speeding, 34 for cell phone use, 20 for expired inspection or registration, 14 for not wearing seatbelts, two for improper child restraint, and one each for not obeying the flagger and unlicensed driver.

Troopers dressed as highway workers for the operation.

Plans are in the works to roll out additional operations in the coming months.

“Distracted driving and excessive speeds are unnecessary dangers that both law enforcement officers and highway workers now face while working to keep the traveling public safe,” State Police Superintendent Keith Corlett said.
