A ‘hold-in-place’ order at Geneva Middle School was lifted during the late-morning hours after a police investigation.
“Geneva Middle School was placed in a hold-in-place at about 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, as a precaution after a staff member overheard a student refer to having a weapon,” the District said in a statement Monday afternoon.
Officials say the hold-in-place was lifted after the student and the student’s locker were searched. They say nothing was found.
Geneva police have taken over the investigation, according to the district. They say students and staff are safe and have returned to their normal school day.
“The hold-in-place was a precaution in keeping with strict district safety protocol,” the District’s statement concluded.
