Volunteers needed for STEPS day of service

Volunteers are needed for the 3rd Annual Day of Service taking place this Saturday, October 5th for the towns of Covert, Lodi, Ovid, and Romulus being organized by Seneca Towns Engaging People for Solutions (STEPS).  Participants who want to give back to their community by helping with a variety of projects, should gather at the South Seneca Middle/High School on Main Street in Ovid beginning at 8:30 am for check-in and assignments.  They will then be transported at 9 am to sites across the southern end of Seneca County for approximately three hours of service, returning to the Ovid Fire Department by 12:30 for a Celebration of Service with food and music.  After lunch, shuttles will return participants to the school.  In addition to the celebratory lunch, volunteers will receive a DOS T-shirt.  Sponsors include Seneca Meadows and the South Seneca School District.

Among the 10+ project locations this year are Hernon Park and Christ Episcopal Church in Willard; the gazebo at the Three Bears Park, the old Ovid Cemetery, and the Community Garden in Ovid; the Interlaken veggie patch and creek clean-up in Interlaken.  There will again be service activities/projects for youth 12 and under that will take place at the Interlaken Elementary School.

It will be helpful if volunteers register in advance by going to http://www.senecasteps.org/day-of-service-2019  or call the STEPS office at (607) 403-0069, but they can also just come to the Middle/High School on Saturday morning.  Participants may sign up as individuals or groups (just note who you would like to be with in the comments). They will then be matched with a site and transported to that site and back on the 5th.

STEPS is a community of members working together to improve community health. Working together, the STEPS Neighborhood can achieve a higher level of Social, Educational, Physical and Economic health. Projects are resident-driven and include the Ovid Community Garden, the Ovid Farmers Market, Cooking Classes for healthier living, Community Book Boxes, programs for the youth in our area as well as Community Collectives which connect volunteers to community organizations that need help. Everyone who lives, learns, works or plays in the towns of Covert, Lodi, Ovid or Romulus is part of STEPS.

For more information or to register as a volunteer, please contact the STEPS office at (607) 403-0069, Kristin.parry@s2aynetwork.org, or http://www.senecasteps.org.
