Drunk driver sent to hospital after crash along Rt. 53 in Naples

Around 1 a.m. on Saturday deputies responded to the area of State Route 53 and Lawyer Road for the report of a vehicle in a ditch.

Deputies say that the operator of the vehicle was found lying on the ground in close proximity to the vehicle.

Investigators determined that 58-year-old David Burns, of Naples, who was traveling south on Route 53 when he hit a guard rail on the west side of the road, then proceeded across the center line – crashing into a tree alongside the east side of the road.

Deputies say that Burns was determined to be intoxicated, and charged with DWI.

He was transported by Naples Ambulance to F.F. Thompson Hospital for treatment. He suffered head and neck injuries, according to police.

Deputies issued traffic tickets to Burns and the charges will be answered at a later date in Naples Town Court.
