Route 89 temporarily shut down after serious crash in Seneca County

Sheriff Tim Luce says State Route 89 was temporarily shut down after a serious crash around 8:15 p.m.

Deputies responded to a one-car crash in the town of Covert on Route 89. When they arrived, they located the occupant, identified as Katie Anne Leister, 31, of Indiana.

She was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigation determined that Liester, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was texting while driving – which caused her to strike the east guardrail. The vehicle then moved across the roadway – striking the west guardrail.

Leister was ticketed for using an electronic device while driving.

The vehicle sustained major damage, deputies said.
