Macpherson v. Buick
Thursday, July 6 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us for a lecture presented by Peter O. Einset on July 6th at 5:30 PM. This lecture will focus on the case of MacPherson v. Buick. The plaintiff, Donald C. MacPherson, a stone-cutter, was injured when one of the wooden wheels of his 1909 Buick Runabout collapsed. The defendant, Buick, had manufactured the vehicle, but not the wheel, which had been manufactured by another party, but installed by Buick. It was conceded that the defective wheel could have been discovered upon inspection. This was one of the first cased to raise the question; does the defendant owe a duty of care to anyone besides the immediate purchaser, in this case the retailer?
