Mothing and Owl Walk Event

Friday, July 14, 2017 @ 7:30 am - 10:00 pm

Come learn more about moths and owls, and how they are affected by invasive species! This event will begin with a presentation by Wyatt Jackson (SUNY Brockport) about his research on invasive plants and moths at Ganondagan. This will be followed by a 45-minute birding walk led by Alexis VanWinkle, our ornithology specialist at Ganondagan. For our night owls, Wyatt will help identify moths that visit our light set-up. Please Bring: A flashlight, water, and clothing appropriate for a trail hike including long sleeves, long pants, sneakers or hiking boots. Binoculars, head lamps, and identification books are optional – bring them if you have them! 7:30-8:15 PM – Introduction to Wyatt Jackson’s research, “The effects of non-native vegetation on moth communities” 8:15-9 PM – Owl Walk with Alexis VanWinkle, 9-10 PM – Moth Identification with Wyatt Jackson.
Registration: NONE, for more information contact Julie.Delles@parks.ny.gov; Alexis.Vanwinkle@parks.ny.gov
