One Million Voices a Photo Gallery on Down Syndrome Awareness
Thursday, March 16 @ 6:00 am - Sunday, March 26 @ 3:00 pm
To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, a photo exhibit will be on display March 16 – 26 in the atrium of the Seneca Falls Community Center. Titled “One Million Voices,” this traveling photo gallery comes to Seneca Falls courtesy of Gigi’s Playhouse, a national network of achievement centers where individuals with Down syndrome and their families have a place to learn, develop, grow and share.
The exhibit features photos and stories of children with Down syndrome and their families. The gallery’s goal is to “Change perceptions of Down syndrome one person at a time until we reach one million new voices.”
This exhibit is free and accessible to the public whenever the Seneca Falls Community Center is open.
World Down Syndrome Day has been celebrated since 2006 and was created to promote global awareness of what Down syndrome is and the roles those with Down syndrome play in our lives and communities. The date of the 21st day of the third month was chosen because individuals with Down syndrome have three copies (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome instead of two.
