Opening Reception and Exhibit: Fire and Rain (Our Changing World)
Friday, May 5, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Opening Reception and Exhibit: Fire and Rain (Our Changing World) In keeping with the theme of “A Year in Tribute to the Earth”, the Arts Center of Yates County is pleased to present Fire and Rain (Our Changing World) as the May exhibit. The opening is to take place on Friday, May 5 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Arts Center of Yates County, located at 127 Main Street in Penn Yan. The first featured artist is Carolyn Keys Hanisch from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with her bringing her Carolyn Keys Jewelry collection, forged in fire and with droplets like rain. Carolyn’s designs artfully combine forms that have a unique style while at the same time imparting a feel of timelessness. This is achieved through the use of rich materials that only get more beautiful with time. While her designs are clean and balanced they are also organic and imperfect. She’s inspired by natural forms, architectural geometries and ancient and traditional arts. Out of the fiery kiln and blooming in the spring rains are Owen Mann’s wall hung ceramic blossoms. He says he creates floral pieces from porcelain and clay for reasons he cannot really explain except that he is captured by the sacred geometry and simplicity of each flowers. He wants viewers to understand the fragility of the Earth and his intention is to inform about the alarming changes in our environment. The opening reception will include light refreshments and wine tastings and is free to the public. The exhibit will hang until Saturday, June 3rd.
