" Monday AM Route 89 Accident "
A two car accident Monday morning on Route 89 in Tyre sent three people to the hospital. The cars hit head on on a curve just south of the Montezuma National wildlife Refuge's Tschache pool and eagle observation tower. Two Mercy Flight medical helicopters landed near Route 89 to take the victims to hospitals in Syracuse and Rochester. The driver of this car had to be freed by Red Jacket Firefighters using the jaws of life. The female passenger was not serious injured, she was airlifted because she was pregnant. The second car traveled half a mile north of the point of impact and came to rest on Route 89. That driver was taken to the hospital by North Seneca Ambulance. The winners are: Coe-Genung Funeral Home, Connie’s Diner, Jean-Jeans, Mobil & Touchfree Car Wash, Mull’s Funeral Home, Mary Ann’s Treasures & Sewing, Machine Doctor, The Gridley Inn, Laundry Junction, Waterloo Memorial Heights Apts., Abby Wines & Spirits, & Puppy Palace. Scoring was done in 3 categories (1) painted, sided & clean looking store front, (2) sidewalks swept daily & kept clean, and (3) surrounding area is neat and clean. Congressman Michael Arcuri stopped in Seneca Falls Saturday afternoon and was greeted by about 75 local residents. Most of the discussion centered on the Cayuga Indian Nation's land trust settlement proposal. Peter Schuster of Seneca Falls took the opportunity to show Arcuri photos of his farm along Route 89. Schuster says the tribe has inquired about his property and they want to build a casino there. Arcuri says he will not support any plan that doesn't have the support of Seneca and Cayuga Counties. " Childhood Reading Gets a Boost "
New born children in Tompkins County will start life with a love for reading thanks to a donation of $5,000 from Tompkins Trust Company to the Family Reading Partnership's "Books at Birth" program. Trust Company President and CEO Greg Hartz presented a check for more copies of the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" to Brigid Hubberman, the Family Reading Partnership's executive director, June 22. Over 40 alternative fuel vehicles participated Friday morning in the Green Grand Prix, an 80-mile race around Seneca Lake. This three wheel car was spotted on Route 96 near Rose Hill Mansion.
