The film tells several interconnected short stories based on Frank Miller's comic book series. But unlike most comic book films, " Sin City " adheres extremely well to the original material. In Miller's city, there are no superheroes, just tough-guys, hard cases, guns, dames, lovers, and losers, all trying to make it through the dark night.
The best of the three stories follows the best-known Sin City character, ugly ex-con Marv (Mickey Rourke, in what ought to be a career-reviving performance), as he avenges the death of a hooker (Jaime King), the only woman who ever showed him tenderness. Then there's the tale of Dwight (Clive Owen), a private investigator perpetually trying to leave trouble behind, even though it won't quit chasing after him. The third saga involves Bruce Willis playing Detective Hartigan, an aging cop who is one hour away from retirement when he goes after the child-molesting son of a corrupt senator.
In many of the scenes you can see very clearly how the panels in the novel must have looked. And yet the stylish look of the film never gets in the way of the stories being told, they merely enhance the experience. Sin City is so visually stunning with its genius black-and-white presentation that it's hard to blink because you don't want to miss a second of the breathtaking images.
Some might complain that the film is too violent, but my response to that is, first, the violence is inherent in the graphic novels, so I say bravo for giving us a movie that looks and feels exactly like the actual book, and second, it is done in a comic, semi-caricaturistic way.
I also must mention that the stellar ensemble cast including Jessica Alba, Benecio Del Toro, Nick Stahl, Rosario Dawson, Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Michael Madsen & Josh Hartnett, are all crucial to the success of this movie as they make themselves at home in Miller's perverse and imaginative alternate universe.
What else can I say.I cherished every dazzling, sick, repulsive, ravishing, over-the-top, blood-spurting, artificial frame of it.

"Sin City" is a slick production of a graphic novel series, shot in black and white, and chock full of star power; among the stars are Bruce Willis, Benicio del Torro, Alexis Bledel, Rosario Dawson, Elijah Wood.the list goes on - believe me.
Visually the film is stunning with a strange combination of film noir and cartoon-ish feel. Not cartoon in the fun, Hanna-Barbera sense, but more in the sense of movement on the screen. It is difficult to describe but a great deal of fun to watch.
It is pointless to get into the plot points for " Sin City ", first because unless you actually read Frank Miller's series you won't really get it and second, because it's practically impossible to explain unless you HAVE read his series, which I have not. Suffice it to say that " Sin City " is such a pleasure to watch that regardless of whether you are a Frank Miller, or even a graphic novel, fan you will most likely enjoy watching some of Hollywood 's greatest actors having a spectacularly fun time inhabiting this world.
