Longtime Syracuse AD Crouthamel to Retire

SU Chancellor Nancy Cantor held a press conference at 12:16 pm Wednesday afternoon to announce the retirement of Syarcuse Athletic Director Jake Crouthamel.Cantor said that Crouthamel has been planning to retire for some time and withh officially relinquish his role as Syracuse AD on June 20, 2005.Head basketball coach Jim Boeheim was in attendance at the press conference along with head lacrosse coach John Desko and several members of the media. Syracuse head football coach Paul Pasqualoni was not at the Wednesday afternoon press conference.Chancellor Cantor spoke highly of Crouthamel noting the 2003 Men’s Basketball National Championship and several Men’s Lacrosse National Championship. She also noted how rare it is for one school to retain the same Athletic Director over more than two decades and how fortunate Syracuse Unversity was to have Crouthamels service.Cantor mentioned that no decision on the future of the Syracuse football program would be made until after the season ending game at Boston College. At that point Crouthamel will review the status of the program and make recommendations to Cantor.A search committee has been formed to find Crouthamel’s replacement but no names were mentioned as his possible successor.
