Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. announced today its interest in expanding their Newark store located at 6788 State Route 31 E. in Newark. The Company plans to add 117,568 square feet of additional space, which will allow a full service grocery store to be built. “Wal-Mart hopes to provide greater convenience and choice to our great customers in Newark,” said Philip Serghini, Sr. Manager of Public Affairs for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. “We are looking forward to working with the village in the upcoming weeks and months on this proposal,” he added. A Wal-Mart Supercenter will increase jobs, generate additional tax revenue and will keep retail dollars in the community.“We are very excited and pleased that Wal-Mart has decided to expand their current store to Supercenter. Wal-Mart has offered our Village and Town residents as well as other Wayne County residents an excellent place to shop. The new Supercenter would be an excellent addition and will bring more jobs to our area,” said Newark Village Mayor, Peter Blandino.Wal-Mart Supercenter stores feature general merchandise departments including: apparel, jewelry, lawn and garden, health and beauty, electronics, and a pharmacy. In addition, the grocery area features a fresh bakery, delicatessen, frozen foods, fresh produce section, meat and dairy department. In the State of New York, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. currently operates 35 Supercenters, and employs 34,410 associates.
