Breaking News: Meth Lab Bust In Morvia

Sheriff Rob Outhouse reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two persons in connection with a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory discovered at 5426 Murphy Hill Rd. in the Town of Moravia, the residence of Jan E. Ripley. A joint investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police into allegations that the occupants there were manufacturing methamphetamine lead Sheriff’s Office Detectives to obtaining a search warrant for the property. The search warrant was executed on Thursday afternoon December 7th. Upon the search a 200 gallon anhydrous ammonia tank containing approximately 120 gallons of anhydrous ammonia along with other known precursors and laboratory equipment used in the production of methamphetamine were recovered. The scene was secured overnight until proper equipment could be brought in to remove the tank. A New York State Police team which specializes in clandestine laboratory operations was utilized to assist the Sheriff’s Office with execution of the search warrant and collection of evidence, much of which requires special handling due to it being hazardous materials. The 200 gallon tank and other hazardous materials were removed from the property and disposed of by Environmental Products and Services of Vermont Inc., Syracuse division. Moravia F.D., Four Town Ambulance and NYS ENCON Police also assisted.Charged as follows:an E. Ripley age 48 of 5426 Murphy Hill Rd. Moravia, N.Y.Unlawful Manufacturing of Methamphetamine 2nd degree, a Felony Unlawful Manuracturing of Methamphetamine 3rd degree, a FelonyCriminal Possession of Precursors of MethamphetamineRipley surrendered herself at the Public Safety Building on 12-11-06 at 2:00 PM and was arraigned in the Town of Moravia Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of $2500 cash or $5000 secured bond. Michael C. Hagin age 44 of 1253 Rt. 38 Moravia, N.Y.Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine 3rd degree, a FelonyCriminal Possession of Precursors of Methamphetamine, a FelonyHagin was arrested at his residence on 12-12-06 at 2:15 PM on a warrant and was arraigned in the Town of Moravia Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 secured bond. Hagin was present at the Ripley residence when the search warrant was executed and was charged after further investigation.
