Statement from CACIA on Cayuga sales tax ruling

The following is the comment publicly stated by Brad Jones, Chairperson of the Citizens Advisory Committee, Indian Affairs, Seneca County Board of Supervisors while in attendance at Tuesday night’s, 12/9/08, Board of Supervisors meeting held in Waterloo, N.Y.”The decision rendered by Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Fisher stating that the Cayuga’s must collect sales tax on cigarette sales is not just a huge victory for Seneca and Cayuga County taxpayers and business owners; it is also an opportunity for our remaining counties within New York State to follow suit. One can only imagine the District Attorneys and Sheriffs in both Oneida and Madison counties doing the same within the next few weeks, if not days.”Brad JonesChairperson, Citizens Advisory Committee, Indian Affairs, Seneca County Board of Supervisors
