Volunteer Opportunity at Cornell Plantations

Cornell Plantations is recruiting volunteers to help in our visitor center/gift shop area. We are looking for individuals who enjoy interacting with the public and are comfortable working at a very busy information/sales desk. Meeting a friendly, helpful person in our visitor center is often the first experience someone has in our botanical garden. That person thus has a vital role to play in the daily operations of Cornell Plantations.Volunteers in the visitor center answer phones, respond to basic plant and garden questions, give directions and orient visitors to various areas of Cornell Plantations, make cash register sales, stock merchandise and maintain displays. A general knowledge of and interest in plants and gardening is required; previous experience operating a cash register and/or multi-line telephone is highly desirable.Volunteers must be available for shifts on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. The preferred shift is 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but hours can be flexible. We request that volunteers commit to an average of one or more days per week. Hours are available from April through October, and possibly longer. Weekend shifts during the peak visitation period, April through October, are also available. Volunteers able to start by April will have the opportunity to train in the less-hectic off-season.For more information about this and other volunteer opportunities, please contact Kevin Moss, Community Outreach Coordinator, at (607) 254-7430, or email km274@cornell.edu.
