“Mad About Theatre”

The Geneva Theatre Guild’s last production of the season is the first production of the new Black Box theatre in the state-of-the-art Geneva Community Center recently opened on Carter Road. “Mad About Theatre,” directed by Pat Collins consists of some very short and very funny plays about life in the theatre. The Geneva Theatre Guild is overjoyed to be working in this very exciting new space, perfect for smaller, more intimate theatre performances. The evening of one act plays that make up “Mad About Theatre” include: “Mrs. Sorken”, a hilarious introductory to the evening. The welcoming speech to the audience is given by the somewhat dotty Mrs. Sorken, who explains her likes and dislikes about theatre, her views on the meaning of life, and what the audience can expect to see during the evening. Mrs. Sorken is portrayed by Terry Knight-Miller; “The Actor’s Nightmare”, involves an accountant named George Spelvin, who is mistaken for an actor’s understudy and forced to perform in a play for which he doesn’t know any of the lines. The playwright, Christopher Durang himself had an actor’s nightmare after performing in this play in which he could not remember any lines, could not find his script, and when he did find the script it was gibberish to him. The actors performing in “The Actor’s Nightmare” are Jason Kinsey, Jessica Kinsey, Deb Hodgeman, Joann Saracino, Stan Weaver, Kathy Mater, and John Spare; “One Minute Play” with Eric Hambury and Molly Bilinkski is the third of Christopher Durang’s plays to be presented. This play tells the story of a young man who tells his suicidal, despairing thoughts to a cheerful woman who chooses to ignore them.; “Top of 16”, written by Ken Dashow is a comic take on the rehearsal process and performing in this play are Elizabeth Chacchia, Jason Kinsey and Dan Chacchia. The last play of the evening is “Impromptu,” Tad Mosel’s play about an exploration of the relationship between life on and off stage with Tom Nichols, Joann Saracino, and Eric Hambury & Kaitlin Roth.“Mad About Theatre” performances will take place at the new Black Box Theatre at the Geneva Community Center on Carter Road on November 5, 6, 7, at 7:30pm and Sunday the 8th at 2:00pm.
