Watkins Glen man win NASCAR ticket drawing

Schuyler County Volunteer Ambulance Association (SCVAA) pulled the winning raffle ticket at 4pm, July 21st. Schuyler Ambulance President Jeremy Pierce and Montour Falls Fire Chief Tom Carson mixed the tickets up inside the drum, giving it a good spin before Carson reached in and chose the ticket. The first ticket drawn was for Carl Blowers of Montour Falls. “When I called Carl to let him know he was the winner of the tickets, he graciously donated them back to us, along with the $200 donation he had given to us for our fundraiser. Thank you Carl !,” says Pierce. They then drew another winner and it was Mr. Harold Harris of Watkins Glen. Pierce called Harold and Schuyler Ambulance delivered the tickets to his home in Watkins Glen. Harris was very happy to receive the tickets and is planning on giving them to a dear friend of his who wants to go.The 2 NASCAR Tickets raffled were 1st row Pit Terrace seats which directly overlook the pits and are reserved for the entire NASCAR event weekend, Thursday, August 5 through Sunday, August 8, and includes Pit Terrace parking located on the infield (valued at $300). This year’s NASCAR event is the Watkins Glen International Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, and GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. In order to keep up with changing regulations, SCVAA has had to change the community programs it once offered, and is looking for alternative ways to raise capital. The organization does not receive any financial assistance from the County or Towns, and relies solely on insurance billing and community donations to operate. Its annual operating budget is over $800,000 and no longer provides enough income to regularly purchase new ambulances or expensive equipment. The Association had decided to try this new fundraiser initiative this year as a way to get the public more aware of the need for donations and as a way to create some fun for those supporters. The fundraiser is a success raising over $25,000 this year from over 720 donations. All of the donations from the raffle go directly to Schuyler Ambulance. The raffle also raised donations for Valois Logan Hector and Tyrone Fire & Ambulance organizations thanks to many of the county’s generous supporters. A list of 2010 supporters can be viewed at SchuylerAmbulance.org .SCVAA Is a not-for-profit 501(c)4 organization formed in 1969 to provide first response emergency medical service to Schuyler County. The association employs between 25 and 45 people (depending on the season) and has a volunteer membership of over 20 people most of the year. Its operating budget is over $800,000 a year and owns 5 ambulances fully equipped for Advanced Life Support. SCVAA receives no financial support from the Federal, State, County, Village or Town. They are supported by service contracts, insurance payments, and donations only.
