On Thursday October 7th the Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board, Inc. will host the 5th annual Finger Lakes Works … with their hands! event at the Rodman Lott and Son Farms in Seneca Falls. This is the premier skilled trades and advanced manufacturing career event in the four county Finger Lakes region. There will be over 600 students from the school districts of Ontario, Seneca, Wayne and Yates Counties participate in this event. Careers in the construction field and skilled trades are in great demand in the Finger Lakes Region. The New York State Department of Labor predicts an increase in the number of jobs in areas such as construction management, engineering, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, green construction and heavy equipment operation to rise by the year 2012 as many skilled trades professionals are aging out of the construction industry. An event such as Finger Lakes Works …with their hands! is an ideal opportunity for companies and businesses to showcase the field as well as provide hands-on activities that can encourage youth to pursue a career in the skilled trades or advanced manufacturing. Hal Smith, chairman of the planning committee and President of Halco Plumbing and Heating is confident that an event such as this plants the seeds of knowledge about careers in construction, skilled trades and advanced manufacturing. Exhibitors, and vendors from local colleges and all areas of the skilled trades and advanced manufacturing will be participating. Many exhibitors from the prior events have stated that the event is a great opportunity for youth to see the trades’ profession and learn more about career opportunities. If your company hasn’t already done so the Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board, Inc. encourages you to register for this event.
