Memorial Day 5K race returns to Waterloo

Are you better than a 6th grader? When it comes to running in a 5K race, that is. This year, Coach K’s former couch potatoes will again participate in the annual Celebrate race through the village.Coach Kevin Korzeniewski formed the Waterloo Middle School running club a year ago as a way to help young people overcome child obesity. Most of the students who practice three times a week are not involved in any other sport. Although sponsorships were offered this year, Coach K decided each runner would raise his own entry fee to participate in the race. “This is a thing we do for ourselves,” Coach K explained. This year, all runners have the opportunity to gather at the VFW for breakfast following the race.
