Dr. Frank’s to participate in Cool Climate event

Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars was selected to participate in the International Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration in Canada from July 22-24, 2011. The winery was the only New York winery to be invited to the Celebration, which took place in the Niagara-on-the-Lake and Toronto areas. This year’s Celebration featured producers of cool climate Chardonnays from regions such as Oregon, Washington, Canada, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa, Austria, France and Italy. The Celebration is hosted annually by the Cool Climate Chardonnay Association, a not-for-profit group devoted to reinstating the dignity of Chardonnay. The Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration is a “coming together” of the finest examples of cool climate chardonnay in the world – a casual but in-depth weekend celebration of wine, food and learning. Cool-climate viticulture encourages grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in higher acidity levels that contribute to fantastically crisp, refreshing wines. At this year’s Celebration, Dr. Frank poured its 2008 Chardonnay, an extraordinary example of a cool climate Chardonnay. Dr. Frank’s 2008 Chardonnay is characterized by pear and apple notes. The fruit and acidity of this wine is perfectly balanced with a mere hint of oak and a crisp citrus finish. Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars was honored to participate in the event and to show off this exceptional cool-climate Chardonnay that it makes in the Finger Lakes region of New York.Located on Keuka Lake a few miles north of Hammondsport, Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars has long been associated with the New York wine revolution. Its founder, Dr. Konstantin Frank, helped pioneer the introduction of the European vitis vinifera grapevines in the eastern United States. For his contributions in the American wine industry he was inducted into the Wine Spectator’s “Hall of Fame.” Now in its third generation, Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars continues as New York’s most award-winning winery since 1962.
