Wine & Spirits mag lauds Anthony Rd. riesling

PENN YAN, NY (Wednesday, Aug. 3) ­ Anthony Road Wine Co.’s 2009 Semi-Dry Riesling is among the top-rated Finger Lakes wines in a feature in the current issue of Wine & Spirits magazine. Anthony Road¹s Semi-Dry Riesling received a rating of 91 in the magazine’s Years Best Finger Lakes feature, in the August issue. The Semi-Dry was among 25 Finger Lakes wines, mostly Rieslings, that were rated as exceptional, which means a score of 90 or more. The Anthony Road entry, which costs $14.99 a bottle, was among 10 wines that were named as Best Buys in the feature. The magazine¹s ratings were based on tastings of 97 wines by Patrick Comisky. The 2008 Tierce Riesling, a dry wine that is a collaboration of the winemakers at Anthony Road, Fox Run Vineyards and Red Newt Wine Cellars, also excelled in the magazine feature. The Tierce was given a rating of 92. Anthony Road Wine Co. is located off Route 14, about 10 miles south of Geneva on the west side of Seneca Lake. Fox Run and Red Newt are also Seneca Lake wineries. The winning winemakers for the Tierce are Johannes Reinhardt of Anthony Road, Peter Bell of Fox Run and David Whiting of Red Newt. The 2008 Tierce also won a Gold Medal at the Riverside International Wine Competition in California earlier this year. Anthony Road¹s 2009 Finger Lakes Vignoles also won a Gold Medal at that May competition.
