The Waterloo Police Department and the Waterloo Fire Department responded to Harry’s Place, 23 West Main Street Waterloo, NY 13165 for the report of a fire underneath an enclosed porch. The fire was contained to the basement area of 23 West Main Street where most of the damage occurred. Secondary damage was reported to some of the surrounding businesses consisting mostly of smoke damage. The building was not insured and the estimated cost of damage is $5,000. The Waterloo Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Border City, Geneva, Seneca Falls, Fayette and Magee Fire Companies. North Seneca Ambulance responded to the scene and treated and released a tenant who resided in an upstairs apartment and washaving difficulty breathing. NYSEG, Seneca County Code Enforcement and the Village of Waterloo Water Department responded and conducted a utility safety inspection of the building. It was determined that Harry’s Bar and the upstairs apartment were safe and could be occupied. The downstairs apartment, which was empty, needs to have repairs made before it can be rented. At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Seneca County Fire Investigation Team.
