Granholm is third repeat winner at Paradise Speedway

Keith Granholm became the third repeat winner of the ultra-competitive 600 Pro Micro Sprint division at Paradise Speedway Saturday night. Granholm took the lead from pole sitter Kirsten Dombrowski at the start and by lap 7 had pulled a full straightaway lead on second place. Behind Dombrowski, there was a lot of hard racing that saw Dane Lorenc and Brandyn Griffin battling, with Lorenc getting third on lap 4 and passing Dombrowski for second a few laps later. As the race entered its second half, Megan Allen moved past Griffin and Dombrowski and found herself in third as Granholm worked through lapped traffic. Dombrowski slid high on the next to last lap and lost several positions as Granholm motored to the checkers…and had his left front tire go completely flat in Victory Lane. I could feel the car shaking over the final five laps, and I knew that the tire was going down…glad it lasted that long.” Lorenc, Allen, Griffin, and Finley rounded out the top five finishers. The 600 Amateur/Stock feature event saw Mark Sabins outrun Peter Sinack on the start, while Alex Hill moved into the second spot on lap 1, leaving Sinack to battle with Dylan Westbrook. Sabins extended his lead and went on to collect the win over Hill, Sinack, and Westbrook. Nash Ridley won the 270/125 Micro Sprint feature event. Multi time 4 Cylinder winner Dennis Witchey took off at the front of the field when the 15-lap 4 Cylinder feature began as Craig Freligh moved past front row starter William Werner to grab the runnerup spot. Witchey held the lead to the finish, taking another win, followed by Freligh, William Werner, Ray Stubbings, and James Werner. A good field of karts was again on hand for Saturday night’s racing, and the Clone Lite feature began with Mike Walker taking the lead, but the red flew for Cory Skurpski’s flip in turn two. Cory was OK, refired his kart, and continued in the race. Walker maintained the lead till Vance Palmer took the top spot on lap 5. A caution bunched the field as the battle for the lead continued, and on the final lap, Palmer tried to swing inside of Walker, but got caught up and slid to the inside as the field scrambled to the checkers. Walker got the win over Timothy Lotz and Dean Ferguson. The Clone Heavy feature event saw four cars battle early on, with Vance Palmer, Wally Young, Timothy Lotz, and Dean Ferguson all in the mix until Young and Ferguson spun to bring out a yellow. Both drivers worked their way back through the field after the restart and the same four cars fought to the finish, with the top three going three wide from turn three down to the checkers. At the line, Wally Young won by inches over Palmer and Lotz. James Donaldson took the lead from Kaela Vanderpool and went wire to wire to take the Junior 1 Combined feature over Kaela and Alyssa Vanderpool. In the Junior 2 Combined feature, Tony Bizardi led the first two laps until Blaze Strickler moved past. A yellow for Kollin Vannorstrand’s spin bunched the field for a restart. Bizardi grabbed the lead on the restart and held off Strickler and Bailey Walker to record the win. In Quad racing action, Brett Baldwin beat out Joe Talbot in the Quad Flat Track division, and in the combined Quad Pro/Stock TT race, Jesse Miller got hteholeshot at the start, but Jeff Cornell closed in behind him and the two battled for the lead while Jordan Bauer and Doug Smith gave chase. Miller and Cornell pulled away to battle amongst themselves until Cornell had mechanical trouble and dropped out, leaving Miller with a sizeable lead that he carried to the finish over Smith and Bauer. Racing action continues at Paradise Speedway next Saturday night for the 600 Pro Micro Sprints. The 600 Amateur/Stock and 125/270 Micro Sprints will also be in action in a regular program plus a regular event for the 4 Cylinder, Quad, and Kart classes. Gates open at 2:30 with kart and quad practice starting at 4 with their heats following. Micro Sprint and 4 Cylinder practice starts at 6, followed by the full program of Micro Sprints and 4 Cylinders, along with the features for the karts and quads. Methanol fuel is available at the speedway on a weekly basis for those that require it.
