Seneca Chamber supports Tyre casino

The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce has announced its support for the proposed Wilmot Casino & Resort project, following a unanimous vote by the organization’s Board of Directors on February 19, 2014. The Wilmot Casino & Resort is a planned $350 million project intended for development in the Town of Tyre, Seneca County. The project will result in an estimated 1,800 new permanent jobs with an annual payroll of $50 million and up to 1,200 construction jobs. In addition, it would generate an estimated $7.8 million annual share of NYS gaming tax for the Town of Tyre and the County of Seneca.Tom Wilmot Sr., Chairman of Wilmorite, expressed his appreciation by stating, “Wilmorite is extremely grateful for the support granted by the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce. We are eager to build this partnership and work together in helping Seneca County prosper.”As part of the project, Wilmorite has made a commitment to recruit, train and hire locally as well as buy goods and services from local vendors. They have pledged to help promote Seneca County and its tourism assets to potential visitors throughout the world and will feature local goods and agricultural products in a permanent “Buy New York” pavilion at the project site. “We believe that the casino and resort, proposed by Wilmorite, will provide Seneca County with great economic growth and opportunity,” said Jeff Shipley, President & CEO of the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce. “The merits of this proposal far exceed any of the alternative casino projects,discussed for the region. This project will help keep money in our community that is currently being spent in Indian casinos or neighboring states. It will give our municipalities and school districts much needed additional revenue and provide new opportunities for existing businesses.” The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce is the leading advocate for business in Seneca County, and was organized to advance the general welfare and prosperity of the County of Seneca so that its citizens and all areas of its business community shall prosper.
