Geneva’s run ends with 61-48 loss to East

On Sunday, the Geneva Panthers captured their first Sectional Championship since 1999. On Wednesday night, they saw their bid for a state championship come to an end at the hands of East High, 61-48.Dontay Caruthers dominated play with 24 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds while a hot shooting Angel Liranzo notched 5 three pointers to lift East to the victory and earn them the Class A bid into the NYS Tournament’s West Regional at Buffalo State on Saturday.For the Panthers, senior Ray Sims Jr. led the scoring with 18 points.Wednesday night turned out to be the last game for several Geneva Panthers who represented the city of Geneva in leading their school to back-to-back Finger Lakes East titles and their first Sectional Championship in 15 years.For Trevor DiDuro, Dytallion Dennis, Jack Wallwork, Benito Diaz, Ray Simms Jr., Terrell Johnson, Akia Jackson, and Steven Dolgos, they will always remember their senior campaign which came to an end with a record of 19-3. Their coach, Brian Miller, was also awarded the Class A2 Coach of the Year by Section V.
