Friday Finger Lakes Warm-Up

Our wild, changeable weather continues as we close out the work week with another push of warmer air. Low pressure is located near Lake Superior this morning. This, combined with an area of high pressure over the Southeast, has set up a broad flow of air from the southwest.A vast contrast in temperatures was observed this morning, with sub-zero readings across New England, but 30s and 40s across the Ohio Valley and Midwest. In the Finger Lakes, temperatures started to get cold last night, but then reversed trends and rose for much of the overnight period. Our temperatures will continue to rise today, topping out in the low 40s. While this will start to melt some of the snow, I am at least a little concerned about ice jams and localized flooding. The low over Lake Superior will dive southeast at us, only to turn to the east and then northeast. This should keep temperatures in the 30s overnight and back near 40º for Saturday. However, as the cold front approaches, some rain and snow showers will be possible both tonight and Saturday.Colder air will work its way in for Sunday and Monday, with highs in the low 20s at best. While Sunday looks sunny, Monday is uncertain as a storm system passes to our south. Most likely, this will bring a few snow showers to the southern Finger Lakes, but in a worst case scenario, we may have more significant snow to deal with.
