Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Shooting Sports program will be conducting a 4-H archery program on Sunday, March 8th and Sunday, March 15th from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM at Buckskin Bowman Archery Club in Waterloo, NY. Children 9 years and older will learn all fundamental safety steps for handling and shooting a bow. Bows, arrows, tabs, arm guards, and targets will be provided by 4-H for this event. Youth must attend both days to receive their 4-H Shooting Sports Archery Training Certificate. The NYS Shooting Sports program utilizes the resources of the land-grant university system and the time, talent and dedication of state and nationally certified Cornell Cooperative Extension educators and 4-H volunteers. Safety is always the primary focus of the program, along with positive youth development skills. The emphasis of all 4-H programs is the development of youth as individuals and as responsible and productive citizens. The activities of the 4-H Shooting Sports program and the support of caring adult leaders provide young people with opportunities to develop life skills, self-worth and conservation ethics. Some of the specific objectives of the program include: teaching self-discipline, problem solving, sportsmanship and appreciation and understanding of natural resources. The shooting sports program is also an opportunity to strengthen families through participation in lifelong recreational activities. We do recommend that a parent or guardian accompany the youth participants whenever possible.
