Americana Vineyards owner Joe Gober joked about a passenger train that could transport people from one winery to the next. The Trail may not have this service, but there’s no harm in pretending, right? This year’s Holiday Shopping Spree event, sponsored by WARM 101.3 and held on November 20-22 and December 4-6, will have a train theme, with ornaments to match. Each of the 16 participating member wineries will give away wooden train cars embossed with their logo. Ticket holders receive a souvenir wine glass, a grapevine wreath and a Cayuga Lake Wine Trail logoed train engine ornament to start. Also for this event, ticket holders are given a Holiday Shoppers Card, good for $5 off any $35 wine purchase, valid for one purchase per customer per winery, a potential $80 in savings. The event begins first on Friday at Montezuma, Long Point, Treleaven and Six Mile Creek wineries from 1-5 pm. Early Saturday starters can visit Treleaven and Long Point Wineries after 9 am and then travel the trail to visit the others until 6 pm Saturday and 5 pm Sunday. Some of this year’s delicious recipes are Chardonnay Reserve Stuffing at Toro Run, Decadent Red Velvet Bars from Goose Watch, and Chef John’s Creamy White Bean Spinach and Roasted Garlic Soup at Knapp Winery.Participants who surrender their ticket at the end of the event are eligible to win one of six Grand Prizes: a Cayuga Lake Wine Trail 2016 Season Pass, a hand crafted vase from Corning Museum of Glass, a $250 gift certificate for Geneva on the lake, an overnight stay at La Tourelle, an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Finger Lakes, or a $250 gift certificate for S & S Limousine. Three-day event tickets can be purchased at any of the 16 member wineries, at cayugawinetrail.com or by calling 800-684-5217. Single tickets are $40, couples $60. Discounted designated driver tickets are also offered. A limited amount of transportation and accommodation packages still available in Waterloo, Seneca Falls and Auburn.
