Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould reports that Detectives have made an arrest following an investigation into a house fire that occurred on February 11th, in the Town of Genoa. On Thursday, February 11th at approximately 11:34 am, emergency services personnel responded to 437 Creek Road in the Town of Genoa for a reported house fire. The fire completely destroyed the home. A resident of the home was present at the time the fire started and was identified as Tammy L. Alnutt, age 45. The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office reports that an investigation into the cause of the fire was initiated and it was determined that the fire started as a result of the unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in the home. They report that Alnutt was making the drug in the kitchen of the home when the process created a fire that spread to the entire structure. As a result of the investigation Alnutt has been charged with:Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine in the third degree — a class D felony, arson in the fourth Degree — a class E felony, and offering a false instrument for filing in the second degree — a class A misdemeanor.Alnutt was arrested on March 14th after turning herself in to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building. She was processed and then arraigned by the Owasco Town Court where she was released on her own recognizance. The investigation into this case is ongoing.
