Sending crime tips in Yates County just got a lot easier. In an effort to move into the digital age, the Yates County Sheriff’s Office launched the Yates Tips app, which allows the community to make tips anonymously, via any Apple or Android device. The app was developed by Citizens Observer tip411 and is available immediately in the Google Play Store, as well as the iTunes App Store. The app will culminate all tips, across all agencies in Yates County, allowing for those to participate with any agency.”We believe the public is our greatest law enforcement resource,” said Penn Yan Police Chief Mark Hulse. He continued, I thank the Sheriff for installing this anonymous text tip system, as it will help our residents play a more active role in keeping our village safe and drug-free.”Terry Halsch, President of tip411 said that “This system has been successful in over 1,400 communities across the U.S.” The benefit has been seen dramatically across the board in communities where this technology has been employed. Halsch continued, “Departments have been helped tremendously by members of the public who have sent anonymous messages to police with important information that often leads to arrests.”Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike said of the app that, “This tip app concept cae out of our Yates Substance Abuse Coalition partnership as a need for this community.” Those with questions about the system or app are asked to call the Yates County Sheriff’s Office at the non-emergency number (315) 536-4438.
