Man pinned under tractor in Stanley dies from injuries

Deputies in Ontario County say that Robert Bassett, of West Bloomfield has died from the injuries sustained during the farming accident, which occurred on September 8th. Bassett had been in guarded condition since the accident occurred when he was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital. He was initially transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua for treatment of his injuries.

On Thursday morning, Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Hathorn Farms, at 1994 Route 245 in Stanley, for a report of a male who was pinned under a farm tractor.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a John Deere farm tractor standing up on its rear wheels. The tractor was being held in place by the cab and roll-over protection structure.

The operator of the tractor, Robert Basset of West Bloomfield, had driven the tractor off the silage pile and the tractor fell approximately 10-12 feet backwards onto the ground below, pinning Basset.

After the victim was freed, the Stanley-Hall-Gorham Ambulance paramedics performed CPR and the victim was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital by ambulance and was later airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
