Former corrections officer from Cayuga County sentenced for sending sexually explicit messages to children

A Cayuga County man and former corrections officer for New York State’s Department of Corrections and Community Supervision was sentenced Thursday for sending sexually explicit messages to several underage girls.

In July, 27-year-old James Benham, of 2416 Moshier Road in Scipio, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree disseminating indecent material to a minor and endangering the welfare of a child. At the time, he admitted to “sexting” a 13-year-old girl in May 2015, inviting her to engage in sexual activity.
