$581 one-time payment sought for Social Security recipients

A $5 monthly cost-of-living increase for 2017 isn’t adequate, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer said Sunday. Schumer is pushing for passage of the Seniors and Veteran Emergency (SAVE) Benefits Act, which would provide a one-time payment of $581 to Social Security recipients — including New York seniors and individuals with disabilities, who were denied a cost of living adjustment (COLA) in 2016.
