Cayuga Medical Center has violated federal labor law, according to a ruling by the National Labor Relations Board. The NLRB held a trial in Ithaca in May after charges were brought against the medical center. A judge found the hospital had illegally retaliated against employees for unionizing and imposes an overly broad code of conduct for nurses that has a “chilling effect.” CMC said it intends to appeal. For nurses involved in the case, the decision from the NLRB is a “slam dunk,” Anne Marshall, a former nurse at Cayuga Medical Center said.
