Auburn man sets West Street home on fire in city; charged with arson

On November 3rd at approximately 3:00 am the Cayuga County 911 Center received a report of a structure fire at 7 West St in the City of Auburn.

Auburn Fire and Auburn Police Departments were dispatched to the scene and upon their arrival they observed flames coming from the residence. The residence consists of a downstairs apartment and upstairs apartment, which were both occupied at the onset of the fire.

All occupants made it out safely and without injuries.

Officers say several witnesses on scene said that the fire may have been intentionally set by a resident of the downstairs apartment. The resident was located in the immediate vicinity and he was taken to Auburn PD headquarters for questioning.

The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of 30-year-old Ryan M. Wilson Sr., of Auburn. He was charged with one count of arson in the second degree, which is a Class B Felony.

Wilson was arraigned in Auburn City Court and remanded to the Cayuga county Jail. The investigation is ongoing and further charges against Mr. Wilson are possible.
